Player characters starting with the Children of Atom origin are able to select "Children of Atom Zealot" and "Children of Atom Missionary" variants, however these vary only in equipment and not in statistics.
Not every member of the church has this ability however, though in Winter of Atom, all Children of Atom have at least some degree of resistance to radiation. The characteristic ability of the Children of Atom is the blessing of Atom, a rare mutation that renders humans immune to the negative effects of radiation without becoming Ghouls. The Children of Atom that the player characters encounter throughout the main quest line vary in allegiance to one or the other, causing some to be peaceful to the characters, and some to be violent. While the faction are usually isolationists, in Winter of Atom, a sect of the Church of the Children of Atom ran by a man named the Last Son of Atom has begun to spread across the Commonwealth through several acts of expansionist violence. They also revere radiation, which they call "His Glow". The Church of the Children of Atom worship a deity known as Atom. See also: Church of the Children of Atom (Last Son)
